Accusound was started around 1985. The exact date is unclear. From day one the ethos was to produce microphones for acoustic instruments which could be retro-fitted to instruments, i.e. fitted after the instrument was finished and had been used for many years, as opposed to being built-in during manufacture.
Griff Jones, the founder, developed various mountings and pick-up systems which are still in use today. There have been significant changes and advancements in technologies in recent years and many of these have been incorporated in the systems available today.
Hebden Sound Ltd took over the running of Accusound in 2005. Hebden Sound is one of the last remaining British microphone manufacturers. Although most manufacturers source partial and complete microphones from the Far East, Hebden Sound manufactures all its studio microphones in Britain. This expertise and experience is being increasingly incorporated into Accusound designs although to keep costs low, a number of parts of these products are sourced from the Far East.
Manufacturing is done entirely within the UK so all parts are easily available as spares and many of our products may be repaired rather than discarded when a fault occurs.
We have increased the product range for most instruments giving the user several choices for their instrument. When you come to choose a microphone we will allow you to take all the products available or suitable for your instrument for a trial period, usually two weeks but please enquire if longer is required. We believe that you can only truly choose a microphone when you have tried it on your instrument in the atmosphere in which you will use it.
If you prefer to hire the equipment rather than purchase it, we offer most of our range for hire. We ask for a minimum of 2 days hire but if you choose to purchase after the hire period we allow the hire charge against your purchase.
